A US-based global organisation of people of Indian-origin would honour 11 community members for their contribution towards Indian Diaspora.The Global Organisation for People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) today said it would honour the community members during its Annual Convention on January 6 in conjunction with Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

The seven selected for the GOPIO Community Service awards are Murray Bullock from St Vincent & Grenadines, George Subraj (US), Dr Anil Mehta (Netherlands), Prof Ajay Rane (Australia), Vasu Chanchlani (Canada), Ishwar Ramlutchman (South Africa), and Sunny Augustine (Dubai). Four special recognition awardees are Dr A Didar Singh, Secretary General of FICCI and former Secretary of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs; Manpreet Kaur Singh from Australia, Ashok Rao (US) and Dr Awtar Singh.

Dignitaries at the convention would include Karnataka and Kerala Governor H R Bhardwaj, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Lord Bhikhu Parekh of Britain's House of Lords.The two-day GOIPI conference, beginning in Kochi on January 5, will cover country and area reports on community issues and perspectives from different part of the world.
