The British army broke the military power of the Zulu nation by defeating the main Zulu army and immediately afterwards capturing and burning the royal kraal of oNdini. Over 400 Zulus were killed by the firepower of the British gatling guns and Artillery and many more injured were killed after the battle ended. The battle had partially salvaged Chelmsfords reputation though he was severely criticised by Horse Guards. With the power of the Zulu impi finally broken and Cetshwayo captured on the 28th August the Zulu Kingdom was divided into 13 districts, each with a pro British chief installed. The once powerful Zulu kingdon was no more.
